RESIDENCE omote

This project is for a corner of an old residential area in Kawanishi City where subdivision began about 40 years ago. While many early prefabricated houses built by house manufacturers at the time of subdivision remain around the site, reconstruction is also underway, resulting in a residential area with a mixture of old and new houses. The site is a regular shaped lot and is surrounded on three sides by two-story houses. After considering what could be done under these somewhat common conditions, we came up with a plan for a building that would blend in as much as possible with the surroundings while also being differentiated from others. The height of the building is roughly the same as the surrounding buildings, and the roof shape is a simple single slope, which allows it to blend in with the surroundings. Because the roof shape is simple, the wall located under the roof has been divided into several pieces and the position of each wall has been shifted to create several surfaces, giving the building movement as a whole and differentiating it from the surrounding buildings.
