T-Square Design Associates

この計画地は国道がT字に交わる交差点にあり、10ｍ程下った隣地にはJRが走る。施主は独身の男性で、休みの日は家で過ごす時間を大切にされている。現時点での家族構成は１人であるが、将来を見据え、４人家族を想定した住宅である。敷地が500坪と広い為、まず手掛かりとして、一本の軸線を定め、その軸線（つまり廊下である）に沿って平屋の平面計画が成立しないかと考えた。そして、その廊下の南側に主要な居室類、北側にその他附室を配置するというシンプルな構成とした。この廊下を風が通り抜けることで、家全体に風の流れを作っている。また、廊下というのはそれぞれの部屋を繋ぐ重要な役割を果たし、家の中で必ず通る場所でもある。それを都市スケールで考えるなら、建物と建物との間に存在する路地のような空間がそれであり、都市の中の余白だ。都市の中ではこの余白空間が面白い。ならば、この家も廊下を気持ちの良い空間にしようと考えた。そうして作られた空間は人と風の通り道となっており、正に都市の中の路地と同じだ。廊下上部には全てトップライトを嵌め込んでいる為、外の天候を感じられる外部空間のような路地形廊下を持つ住宅である。

The house is located in a rural area of Fukuoka, Japan. There is a wind flow on east-west axis of the site which led the architect to decide the layout plan of the house as well as the floor plan. This single story house is designed for a single person which meant that not many rooms were needed. Master bedroom, an extra room along with living, dining and kitchen. Therefore, the zoning of the house is simple. A long corridor on the east-west axis in the middle to take in natural wind and private rooms on the south of the corridor and the rest (back yard) on the north. When the wind flows through the corridor, air in each rooms adjacent to the corridor gets sucked which makes an air flow throughout the entire house leading the whole house to be ventilated at all times. The corridor is planned to look and feel like outside. In large cities, alley are more attractive than main streets. They are more to human scale with just enough sun shine and wind flow. So the intention of the corridor of this house was to resemble those city alley. It is like an extra space of the house just like alley are the extra space of the cities. This corridor takes in natural light and wind to keep the house cool in summer and warm in winter.
